One of the many activities I personally love is reading about other cultures, especially when I am planning to visit a culture different than mine. Soon, I will be visiting some countries in Africa.
Cairo, Egypt will be the first stop. This week, as I was finding out more about Egyptians, I stumbled upon an ancient ceremony Egyptians celebrated during the Pharaoh’s time. It was called the “Weighing of the Heart” ceremony.
Since Egyptians were very well advanced in science, one could assume the intellect would play a key a role in the afterlife also. To my surprise, as it is mentioned in the Book of the Dead of Hunefer: “The ancient Egyptians believed that the heart was the seat of the emotions, the intellect and the character, and thus represented the good or bad aspects of a person’s life”. At the end of their lives, their heart was the most essential organ.
As I was reading about the ceremony, I realized I have neglected love, affection, support and time to my husband, family and friends during the time of writing this blog. I have forgotten that the most precious time anyone can give to another human being is to be present and give full attention to them.
I have decided to take a break from this blog and spend my “being in the present” time wisely. I want to get in touch with people’s eyes, instead of phones screens. I want to feel people’s skin and warm hugs, instead of feeling the cold material of computers. I want to hear their voices and connect with them, instead of hearing the computer or phone key strokes.
I will be writing in my handwritten personal journal, instead of this blog during this time. I will continue walking the Path Through the Labyrinth and sharing it in a more personal level.
