Baby Steps

The more I work with the labyrinth, the more I am conscious of my journey.

In a recent labyrinth walk, a tall handsome young man was standing at the entrance of the labyrinth while I was holding the space for him. As he was waiting, I sensed it was his first time. He gave me the impression that he was “scanning” the 42 feet labyrinth. He looked at all circuits, the winding path and finally the center. He was practically “walking” the labyrinth with his eyes from the entrance.

Not too long after I signaled the OK to step in, he hesitated for a moment, took a deep breath and finally asked me: “How can I get out? Can you tell me?” I just smiled and told him: “Don’t worry, there is only one path. The path that leads you in is the same that leads you out. There is no right or wrong way to walk, nor any limitations”. He finally took a relaxed breath and started to walk in.

This young man showed me how I sometimes restrict myself with imaginary walls – self-imposed rules or my idea of wanting to know every outcome beforehand. Although it is savvy to have due diligence when embarking on a new project or new creation (a book, career, job, piece of art – painting, sculpture, piece of music or anything) it is important to not let self-imposed restrictions prevent us from going after our dreams or goals.Baby Steps Labyrinth

It might feel scary or daunting to embark into something new, especially if it is out of your comfort zone, but as Orison Swett Marden said: “When we are sure that we are on the right road there is no need to plan our journey too far ahead. No need to burden ourselves with doubts and fears as to the obstacles that may bar our progress. We cannot take more than one step at a time”.

Let’s keep walking regardless of any fear, obstacles or imaginary walls.

Happy baby steps,
Adriana
